The Female Artist - Veronica Swain
Exploring the female artists of today and yesterday, we’ll see how these women were received in differing time periods and cultures, the messages they conveyed, and the strength their art gave to them. In creating our art, we’ll look to famous artists for inspiration such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Mary Cassatt, and Frida Kahlo, and we’ll look to artists who were not so famous but left their mark and their stories. We’ll paint, but we can also delve into traditional handicrafts such as free-form embroidery and batik printing, and contemporary crafts like the mixed media collage craze and polymer clay figures. This class curricula will depend on the interests of you and your fellow classmates, so be prepared to try new things and new ideas!
